Thursday Top 5+1

“Pixels”
The end is nigh! Awesome short film by Patrick Jean

Catch Me if You Can opening title sequence
Great graphics here. I need to Netflix this movie.

Apartment advice from Conan O’Brien
NBC is so stupid. Conan rules.

“And Then There Was Salsa” Tostitos ad
You want to see some innovative online advertising? This Tostitos ad is brilliant. I had to watch it three times just to catch all the spectacular awesomeness. This one for Wario Land: Shake It! is pretty rad too.

I Love Wikipedia
A collection of interestingness gleaned from Wikipedia.

NYTimes: “Video Shows U.S. Killing of Reuters Employees”
And Americans wonder why people of other countries hate us: “...A wounded man can be seen crawling and the pilots impatiently hope that he will try to fire at them so that under the rules of engagement they can shoot him again. ‘All you gotta do is pick up a weapon,’ one pilot says...”

Thursday Top 5

Llewtube Carpool
Every week British actor and author Robert Llewellyn (best known as Kryten from “Red Dwarf”) gives someone interesting a lift, and interviews them on the way, recording a video podcast. The guests seem to usually be British entertainment insiders, but others are well-known even to us on this side of “the pond,” such as Patrick Stewart, Dave Gorman, Stephen Fry, and Tony Hawk (and apparently John Hodgeman will be doing one soon). This one’s with John Lloyd (“Blackadder,” “Not! The Nine O’Clock News,” and co-writer with Douglas Adams of The Meaning of Liff [sic]). The conversations a rather inside-y and are probably only interesting to total nerds. Like me. But the concept of conducting an interview on a car ride is simply brilliant and absurdly original in the way only the English can be. Edit: His embed code doesn’t work, so you’ll have to go to his website if you want to watch any of the videos.

Galactic Empire State of Mind
Lol at the headphones.

ABC 7 I-Team Investigates: Organic Foods
Whole Foods’ “California Blend” organic vegetables are (were?) harvested in China. This investigation is from 2008; I don’t know whether there’s been an update.

Metallica, “Enter Sandman” (Smooth Jazz Version)
Nice!

Acrylic on flesh
A very interesting technique by Alexa Meade.

“Good riddance to him, the freeloading bastard”
John Cleese at fellow Python Graham Chapmans’s memorial service. [.mpg, 1.79 MB]
